Doctor Sofie De Hertog studied medicine at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where she specialized in dermatology. She graduated in 2002.

During her studies, she developed a special interest in the detection of skin cancer. She participated in a large-scale research project at the Leids Universiteir Medisch Centrum (NL) concerning the risk factors for skin cancer (both melanoma and epithelioma).

Her thesis concentrated on psoriasis: possible treatments, efficiency, recrudescence.
